“HOW TO KNOW GOD’S WILL”
Many times, people who visit Growing Faith Christian Church Brick, NJ, ask “How can I know the will of God?”
There are various Bible verses that specifically state what God’s will is. For instance, in 2 Peter 3:9 we learn that “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promises, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” In addition, 1 Timothy 2:3,4 says: “God wants all people to be saved and come to a knowledge of truth.”
At Growing Faith Christian church, we have learned that it is impossible to understand what God wants to do in a situation if we don’t even have a relationship with Him. God guides us through His Spirit living within us. It is God’s will that we be Spirit filled. (Ephesians 5:17,18) We are to be sanctified, which means separated from sin. This is the logical supernatural result of being born-again because we express this new life in outward behavior by how we live our life.
It is also God’s will that we suffer at times; for His sake, and according to His will. The Bible verses which speak to this are 1 Peter 3: 17-18: “For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” Sometimes, suffering is part of what God wants to do in your life.
Interestingly, it is God’s will that we keep ourselves in a perpetual state of rejoicing in Him and His blessings, praying constantly and thanking Him in every circumstance in which we find ourselves.
God tells us to “offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, because this is our true and proper worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12: 1-2.
